19-year-old French right-back Malo Gusto has been acquired by Chelsea from Lyon for 35 million euros.
Gusto has a contract with the Blues through the summer of 2030, but he will play out the rest of the current campaign with Lyon.
The deal, according to Lyon, has a 5 million euro add-on.
"The defender will now continue his impressive progress on loan [at Lyon] before joining up with the Blues in the summer ahead of the new campaign," Chelsea said in a statement.
Gusto progressed through Lyon's divisions before making his professional debut in January 2021.
He has made 15 appearances for the ninth-placed French team in Ligue 1 this season.
Lyon said the club "regrets not having been able to keep one of its major dreams trained at the academy." Nevertheless, they are "happy" he would be staying with them for the remainder of the 2022–23 season
In addition to bringing in Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid, Chelsea also added Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, and Benoit Badiashile in January on permanent contracts.
The fees for all of those transactions total around £160 million, but they might increase based on add-ons.
